Some Of Our Favorite KAUST Library Kids Books

Have you ever checked out KAUST’s Harbor Library with your little one(s)? Truly a hidden gem and with recently added parking spots, the Harbor Library is a great spot to go if you and your kids are feeling the need to get out of the house.

For a full schedule of their weekly events such as: storytime and arts and crafts, click here to be directed to their website which they update with monthly activity calendars (scroll all the way down to find the calendar).

Did you know you can also check out books for you and your child to borrow and take home?

We love bringing home an armful of new books each week. Let’s face it, even, cough especially, parents can get tired of reading the same books at home over and over again.

However, it can be overwhelming at first to know which books to check out. We've had our fair share of one’s we didn’t love, but also one’s we have checked out again and again….and again. Here’s a list of some of our personal favorites.

  1. Jesse Bear, what will you wear? By Nancy White Carlstrom

Whimsical and fun this book takes you through a typical day that any toddler can relate to. With fun rhymes and colorful sketches, our little one goes around the house after storytime saying “Jesse Bear” in the cutest little voice.

  1. Everywhere Babies, By Susan Meyers

Ok, this one may be more of a parent favorite due to the emotion-tugging illustrations. The illustrator, Marla Frazee, is one of our favorites. I highly recommend looking up her book: “In Every Life,” it makes us (ok, me) cry every time.

If you have a little one under two, these books are a must, and the library has a (well-loved) 20-book set. From fruits and vegetables, to animals, to familiar objects around the house, this book set introduces all of baby’s most common first words.

  1. Mazeways, by Roxie Munro

This book is so FUN! Suitable for older ages 5+, but also lots of fun for little ones to look through the pictures. Each page is a different letter of the alphabet in the shape of a maze corresponding to that letter (for example: K for Kitchen, Z for Zoo). Our two year old learned so many new words through the illustrations in this one and mom and dad (us) had a lot of fun doing the mazes while looking through it too.

  1. If You Give A Moose A Muffin, by Laura Joffe Numeroff

This one is a classic. If you’ve read “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” you’ll be familiar with this author and series. I personally love the Moose book the most probably because we bake so many muffins in our household.

  1. What Do People Do All Day? By Richard Scarry

This book is often checked out because of how much children love it. Filled with cars, buses, trains, machines, farms, cities, each page describes different jobs set in the bustling, cheerful Busytown. Your little one will love looking at these pages for hours!

What are some of your favorite children’s books you’ve found at the KAUST Harbor Library?
